Internet database integration technology allows users access to a live database through a web page.

All of the usual abilities of a database, such as searching for information, doing calculations, entering new information, and editing existing information, are available through the web browser.

This means that any application that can be created using a database can be made available on the web. In fact, most companies already have many existing database applications that can profitably be 'webified.'

This page lists some of the general web database application areas and some specific examples. Detailed case studies are available in the Portfolio section of our web site.

Costs

The costs to implement a database web application is divided into Application Development Costs and Database Server Start-up or Monthly Database Hosting Costs.

Application Development Costs

Database development often ranges widely -- from $300 to $15,000 depending on the complexity of the application. Typical projects produced by Modular usually cost between $300 to $5,000.

We also provide site development and graphic design services charged at a rate of $70 per hour.

Monthly Hosting Costs

The suggested option is to deploy your database application with our web hosting service. In this case, you would pay a monthly fee to put run database application on our server. This fee starts at $25 per month (which includes standard web hosting) and may be higher depending on the traffic requirements of your application. The range is typically from $25 - $50 per month. High traffic sites could be more.

Database Server Start-up Costs

The software Modular Graphics & Media uses to develop and deploy database applications is MySQL or FileMaker Pro. Once an application has been developed, it can be deployed on your own web server (MySQL if open source (free) but purchase of the FileMaker Pro Server application server is required) or on a web hosting service (preferred) that offers database hosting.

External Maintenance Costs--Your Time Only!!

The beauty of a Modular Graphics & Media-designed database integration project is that external maintenance costs are greatly reduced if not eliminated altogether.

Regular monthly, weekly or daily maintenance of the data that drives your site is updated by your existing in-house staff at their own computers via our specifically created browser forms -- you will have solved one of your major web site related headaches.

Your web site will always be up-to-date -- a feature that your customers will appreciate and make your competitors' web sites stale.

Return on Investment

In comparison to the advantages of placing a Modular Graphics & Media integrated database on the Internet, the costs are moderate. The return-on-investment is substantial.
